Coogee House in Sydney, Australia is an example of how modern design can be mixed and matched with healthy living. Tanner Kibble Denton Architects is structured around a water feature and exudes an optimum indoor-outdoor connection. The inhabitants can enjoy time outdoors, despite the relatively small portion of land which remained unbuilt. A lovely glass roofed pergola is the focal point of this outdoor area, covering a special lounge “venue” which significantly extends the overall living space.
Warmth is added through an inspiring array of materials and finishes: “The house employs timber extensively in framing, cladding, flooring and ceilings, adding a richness to the spaces and warmth, particularly in the upper levels where occupants are closest to the clear finished timber ceiling. Generosity of space is provided through the double height volume, allowing other secondary spaces to be more modest and intimate”.
The stair is a major element in the house and is designed to be a prominent architectural element, while still providing an intimate experience. An atmosphere of soothing calm is released throughout, which is probably our favorite feature of this Sydney residence.
