A stainless steel mesh gate and screen make for a protective entrance. Those lucky enough to live here walk past it to find a heavenly modern home with social spaces opening towards a stunning lap pool lined with greenery. The fabulous House on Princess of Wales Road was designed by Hyla Architects as a highly detailed home customized for the family of four living here. This modern home, formerly a semi-detached house turned into a bungalow, is now a highly contemporary place to live a modern lifestyle. Imagine yourself coming home from work to find you can indulge in a well-deserved lap session and sunbathing afternoon in the courtyard.

Then heading up to the marvelous master bedroom via a cantilevered Patagonian Walnut timber staircase looking down to the pool deck below. This heavenly resting space showcases a rainforest tree in the middle, making your evening routine the most coveted event of the day. Architects knew how to create a soothing feeling throguhout: “ A unique spiral staircase connects the master bedroom to the study above. Here, the shelves are inspired by the shape of the Ligne Roset sofas. The kids rooms are custom designed to the children’s own brief as are their bathrooms.” In the boy's room, a custom designed bookshelf steals the design show, while the girl's room provides a cheery atmosphere via pink nuances. Even the guest bathroom provides a visual delight of glass mosaic tiles under a circular skylight.

Take a careful look at the photos, they're filled with amazing details. We'd love to know which design element was your favorite: was it the spiral staircase? Or the sleek and masculine boy's bathroom design?

Charming Modern Home Extension Re-Shaping Socializing Opportunities

Extending a home to fit current needs is not to be taken easily. A modern home extension requires planning for future use and using what already exists to support that. An exemplary proof is Casa ATT by Dionne Arquitectos, a home in Puebla, Mexico, that was re-designed by the architects as a fuller, more nurturing collection of spaces. In their successful effort of renewing the outline of the house, architects integrated the new structure into the familiar floor plan by “generating clear transitional environments discovering visual axes and circulation leading to the new spaces.”

Plenty of socializing areas bring the family together: the new open social space, terrace and guest bedroom complete the necessary space and helps better organize the interiors. In addition, the terrace overlooking the garden connects the original volume with the new additions. In these photos captured by Patrick López Jaimes, the layout looks beautifully put together. From the front, the house looks private and once you step inside, details flood your design-hungry mind. According to the architects, “ATT House is a house in which a clear spatial harmony lives through environments that invite habitation.”

What do you think about this modern home extension? Can this home inspire you to extend your own piece of heaven? mo
